Tea TrendZ - A world of tea to discover!

Michele MarchTeas come from a single plant, the Camellia Sinensis. This single type of plant creates over 3,000 types of tea.

Tea is cultivated predominantly in Southeast Asia: China, Taiwan (formerly Formosa), Japan, India, and Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon). Variables such as soil, altitude and weather have an effect on the tea production – known as “terroir”, a term also used in the growing of grapes for wine. Some tea plant varietals grow best in high mountains and cool mist, while others grow well in lower terrain and valleys.

Tea leaves are picked as the top two leaves and bud of the tea bush. After the leaves are plucked, they are left to wither and oxidize (exposed to oxygen) and undergo various methods of processing, depending on the type of tea being produced. This leads to four main types of tea: White, Green, Oolong and Black.
